Julia Ann Kennedy

When did you join: October 2017

Occupation: Software Engineer

What is your spirt animal: Unicorn! (And Rebel Wilson, she speaks my soul)

Biggest Motivation: Challenging myself and knowing that there is always room for improvement.

Favorite quote: Be a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside.

Favorite Workout fuel: I actually work out on an empty stomach, so I am going to have to go with encouragement from fellow MC’ers (specifically speaking of my biggest enabler, Emma).

Favorite lift: Not a popular opinion, but I actually love snatches and cleans!

Least favorite lift: Overhead squats!!! Are they really even possible?

Favorite workout so far: Isabel, Fran, and anything not including the Assault Bike.

Athlete of the month goals

Personal: Sleep more, read more, and be a stay-at-home mom with no kids (kids can come later). My personal goals are also to beat my athletic goals!

Professional: Well since my husband won’t let me stay home with no kids, I guess I would have to say that I would like to be the most creative and innovative female programmer and continue to always knock the socks off of the men in my field.

Athletic: Conquer my fear of being upside down so that I can actually accomplish doing a hand stand. I hope to never settle and always strive for being better and stronger than I am today. I would like to get to a point where I feel confident enough to compete, and hopefully in the next year. I have always thought that obstacle races also look really fun so one day, I hope to participate in one. And the most important goal is to not always look like I am dying in Coach Toya’s Instagram stories – I literally am always on the ground dying in her posts..

Why do you choose MC CrossFit? In the beginning, I chose MC CrossFit because my fiancé (now hubby) and I had just moved down south from the northland and I needed a place that was close to our new house that didn’t feel like a daunting drive. I checked out a LOT of places and MC had top-notch facilities and I really liked that it was < 10 mins from my house. After I started going here, my whole perspective on gym life changed and I fell in love. I was always welcomed back like I had been a part of the family forever. The community is fantastic, I have met so many genuinely awesome people who have the same goal as me to work hard and be better every day! Everyone is always willing to help each other out with working on each other’s goals together. This place truly is my happy place and every day I show up is a good day, even if it started as a bad day. I wouldn’t trade this community for anything and I have made some amazing friends from MC!
